Celebration of Anzac Day

Anzac Day

The reason why we celebrate Anzac day is because we remember the soldier’s that died in 1915 world war 1.

We celebrate to keep alive the memory of all those who have fought and for those who have died protecting their country and their people. We should never let our heroes be forgotten.Ever!!

Also the ladies use to cook really nice biscuits its called Anzac biscuits but they were also hard.

It’s such an important day it has been made a public holiday and all the shops are shut till 1.00pm as a sign of respect.

THIS A FAMOUS POEM OR ODE

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row

That mark our place, and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

How to make Anzac biskuits

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup plain flour
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup dessicated coconut
  • 100g macamdamia nuts, chopped
  • 125g butter
  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  • 1 tsp baking soda (bicarbonate soda)
  • 2 tbsp boiling water

Method:

Preheat oven to 180°C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper and set aside.
In a bowl combine the oats, sugar, flour and coconut.
In a small saucepan heat the golden syrup and butter. Add the boiling water to the baking soda and dissolve.
Pour dissolved baking soda into the golden syrup and mix. It will foam up and as it does, pour into the oat mix. Stir to combine and mix in macadamias.
Roll into small balls and place 3 cm apart on the baking trays. Flatten slightly with the back of a spoon.
Bake for 15-20 minutes until slightly golden. Transfer to a rack and leave to cool.

In Europe they have a similar day called remembrance day in November.

swimming in our new pool.

Wow I was so excited as I slipped into the pool like a slippery snake. I felt uncomfortable under the water.
Once I started swimming I got use to it,
later on as the water started getting warmer. While I was enjoying swimming in warmness part of pool we had to get out the water I said "I didn't want to get out".
Once I got a cold breeze blew pass me
I was shivering cold.

During maths time we have this online site
called study-ladder.We often use it all the time it's
a good site for us students and it makes our brain get more facts and learn our basic facts easily. People is getting the use of it and focus on their time tables or multiplying.

bouyancy

In room7 we have been learning about sinking and floating. We were placing objects in a big container full of water. We saw the things that floated that stayed on top off the water and the things that sinked went under water.

War letters

20 November 2010
878 blue skin Street
Tiki Tiki
New Zealand

Dear Mum and Dad,

Last week I was on patrol in the mountain valley and the roads were full of civilians wanting to be saved ,as their city was under attack by Warwick rebels. The Sargent told me to radio HQ for backup.I tried to reach HQ and request that next platoon of solders to come up smart quick as we needed backup but the radio frequency was not working , the old 1980’s radio set had broken down again . So to save lives we pushed ahead up the valley with out the knowledge that backup was on the way.

You know when we have lunch hear especially on patrol, it like when I was a courier drive back in Tiki Tiki, you eat quickly as your on the watch for the dangers which exist around you all the time.

Then later on that day, some enemies were told to come the and do there thing around the battle fields but then us solders went to have lunch.

See you back home

Love

siliva.

Mary Makillop show.

Mary Mackilliop show

On Thursday our school had the privilege of seeing a play about Mary Mackillop in our school hall and why she became the first saint from New Zealand and Australian . Mary Mackillop was born in Australia and the Mackillop family was poor and need some food . Their was a man who's name was Scott and there was a girl who name was Julia where performed the play. I thought that Scott was funny and the crowd laughing at him and Mary Mackillop was played by Julie

Scott had riped clothes and Mary Mackillop told Scott to go to Saint Joseph home and they will help you and your family . When Scott came back he told Mary Mackillop that her sister died . Mary Mackillop want to go to see her sister and she need a ride a short distance to see her sister even though she was dead. She went to the place but there were people drinking in this place and a man , Kelly, and Mary Mackillop went to see her sister after she died.

Another part of the play told us about when Mary’s Dad was milking the cow and need to push the cows and seven people had to push this one cow and Scott told them your standing on the cow would work. After the helpers finished they sat back down and after an few more parts of the story it revealed that Mary was now a Saint . Many members of her family were happy that Mary Mackillop was a Saint. Even Mr Coakley had a part in the play as he had to throw a pillow to Scoot and to try and land on the billy cart.

Well I enjoyed the show and I now feel I know Mary Mackillop better.

THIS IS ME......Siliva

I am a athletic.
I wounder if I can be rich.
I hear my mum calling me.
I see birds flying around the sky.
I want all the chocolate in the world.
I am a human being.

I pretend I can fly.
I can feel the wind blowing past me.
I always touch the floor.
I worry when my Nana's sick.
I will cry when my dad dies.
I am a very good student.

I understand when the teacher teaches me.
I hope I’m famous some day.
I dream that I’m a chocoholic.
I try to be more like my dad.
I hope my Nana doesn’t die.
I am very special.

Having a great tool

It is clear that in today’s world we must use computers as they have replaced the pen. As a learning tool in the classroom it provides me with access to Internet. The Internet enables me to do mathematics games and google doc.

I think it is clear that it is very awesome because it can help me with my keyboard typing and with my skill's generally.

It is very good because when there is a time when you want to tell some thing in Private to the teacher you can always chat with her online.

I think it is a very good tool because it is always helpful in the class cause when you have a presentation to share with the teacher with picture's in it and it can be done on line.

I think net book's are so incredible because our class is so lucky to get one of these net book tool's and I am so happy to have a Net book of my own too.

Athletics at St Pius X Catholic school

On Friday 18th of March 2011 it was time for Saint Pius X first Athletic Day of the year. I was so nervous about sprinting with the other year7’s. We gathered in our house teams outside the classrooms and marched with our banners and flags waving, some of my classmates were chanting for their houses.

Mrs Pole was the race announcer and she called for the 5 yea old to go to the start line. This was the time for my little brother and my little cousin’s heat. Each year group went down to the start line one by one representing their house with pride, sprinting in their heats and then finals. It was so cool to chant and cheer the runners.

Well the sprints were almost finished and it time for the year 7’s race’s I was so nervous as my house leaders had high expectations .When Mr Gaffney said “get your marks” I felt I was going to die.GO! the year 7 boy’s went rushing down the lanes ,my legs shacking. Finally I reached the end of the finish line .

(Well you have written an interesting start to your recount..try and include things about the gathering before each team marched to the track, waving banners and flags, chanting. Also the house names, which hour u were in. was your brother in the same house, ..)

I enjoyed reading your work...I home the other recounts you have written in the last three weeks are just as good.
